A pair of "G.Rushbrooke (Smithfield Ltd)" Edwardian ironstone ham stands, circa 1900 to 1910.
These display stands would have originally graced a nineteenth century butchers counter or window display. Marked "G.Rushbrooke (Smithfield Ltd)" to the base, the ham was placed on top, its curve fitting into the stand's well allowing it to be easily carved in position - as well as beautifully displayed.
The stand's pared-back shape and off-white ironstone colour provides a glimpse into Victorian utilitarianism and into nineteenth century daily life and its needs – which now chimes with our own twenty first century ideals and modern aesthetic. Stand a plate on top, and it can be used to display and serve pies, cakes or whatever else takes your fancy. Add a pillar candle and make a beautiful table display as you can see in the photos.
If you're interested in purchasing one, rather than the pair - please reach out.
These items are in beautiful condition. A few marks here and there commensurate with age but no chips to either of the stands.
