Bakelite Shade, Herbert Terry & Sons Model 1227 Anglepoise Lamp Circa 1940's

The lamp is fitted with its original and very rare rolled rim Bakelite shade and matching Crabtree bulb holder. Bakelite was used during the inter and early post war years, due to metal shortages. As Bakelite is very fragile, very few of these shades survived.

The early 1227s are identified by the taller ‘tuning fork’ support and side exit cable holes on the elbow and cone top fixed tension springs as seen on this lamp.


The lamp is in wonderful original condition. The shiny black base and arms have just the right amount of wear. The Bakelite shade is in great condition, with a very small crack at the bottom of the shade. The crack is barely noticeable and does not affect the lamp in any way.

Our 1227 has been completely taken apart, cleaned thoroughly and rewired back to its former glory.
