Rare ‘Sputnik’ Lloyd Loom Linen Basket by Geoffrey Lusty, 1957

An exceptional and highly sought-after Lloyd Loom linen basket designed by Geoffrey Lusty in 1957, inspired by the Space Age and the launch of Sputnik. Featuring a woven teal body suspended within its original metal frame with ball feet, complete with domed lid and original maker’s label. Reportedly, only around 100 examples were ever produced. A striking and sculptural piece of mid-century design — incredibly rare, particularly in this colour and such well-preserved, original condition.

Product Code: IAS35

Condition Report

In excellent, highly original condition. There is some paint loss to the metal legs and lid, along with light marking to the woven body, all commensurate with age and use. The wicker is intact with no breaks or losses. The original ivory maker’s label is present. Overall, a superb example.

All of our items are genuine original pieces and as such will show signs of age and use. We believe these signs of wear — from patina to minor imperfections — are part of each item's story and character. While we restore, clean and check every piece to ensure it’s ready for many more years of use, we don't over-restore or attempt to erase its history. If you’d like more details about a specific item’s condition, feel free to get in touch — we’re always happy to help.
