Teak Roll-Top Writing Desk by Egon Østergaard for S.M.I - Sweden, c.1960s

A beautifully crafted Scandinavian roll-top bureau by Egon Østergaard, showcasing his hallmark balance of form and function. The smooth tambour top opens to reveal an organised interior with drawers and pigeonholes, while the pull-out writing surface provides extra workspace. A rare freestanding example featuring four lower drawers — most were produced with three — combining elegant design with practical versatility.

Condition Report

In excellent vintage condition with only minor age-related wear. The teak retains a warm, even tone and fine grain throughout. The original key and lock system are present and in full working order. All drawers and the roll-top tambour run smoothly, reflecting the quality craftsmanship of the piece. Please note, the glare you can see in some images to the front of the bureau is from natural light. 

All of our items are genuine original pieces and as such will show signs of age and use. We believe these signs of wear — from patina to minor imperfections — are part of each item's story and character. While we restore, clean and check every piece to ensure it’s ready for many more years of use, we don't over-restore or attempt to erase its history.
