Vintage Hand Carved Solitaire Board with Large Semi-Precious Stone Marbles, c.1970s/80s

A beautiful vintage solitaire set, comprising a hand-carved hardwood board with a collection of 38 individually polished semi-precious stone and crystal marbles.

The set includes 38 unusually large, individually polished semi-precious stone marbles, each measuring approximately 3.5cm in diameter. There is a varied mix of natural stones, appearing to include agate, jasper, quartz, rock crystal, rose quartz and amethyst, alongside a number of other decorative mineral varieties. Each has been individually shaped and polished, giving the complete set an incredible range of colour and texture.

The hardwood board has been carved with individual playing recesses and a deep circular gallery around the edge for holding the marbles during play.

Likely dating from the latter half of the 20th century, the set works equally well as a traditional game or simply as a decorative object, with the collection of semi-precious stones being a feature in its own right.

Condition Report

In excellent overall condition. All 38 semi-precious stone marbles are in excellent condition.

The hand-turned wooden board has a slight natural bow, meaning it does not sit completely flush on a flat surface. This is consistent with a hand-turned piece of natural timber and does not affect its appearance or use in any way. Otherwise, the board is in very good condition with only light signs of age and use.

All of our items are genuine original pieces and as such will show signs of age and use. We believe these signs of wear — from patina to minor imperfections — are part of each item's story and character. While we restore, clean and check every piece to ensure it’s ready for many more years of use, we don't over-restore or attempt to erase its history.
